The department of this university is located near Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County with very abundant market demands in the recreation & sport industries within the regions, for example: 1. Agricultural-Biological Technology Park; 2. Maolin National Scenic Area; 3. Aboriginal Culture Park; 4. Sandimen Scenic Area; 5. Hakka Cultural Park; 6. Saichia Air Sports Park; 7. Sunwood Lake Golf Club; 8. Pingtung County & Kaohsiung City Urban-Rural Fitness Center (Club); 9. Pingtung County Aboriginal Homestay; 10. Dalukuan Amusement Park; 11. E-DA Theme Park, etc. Therefore, this department tutors the students to carry out the internship services for the local industries, and makes use of the teachers’ teaching courses, industry-academy plan in the industry, and the government departments’ commission cases to assist the practitioners in the value increment or innovation for the product service. Finally, the students are guided to smoothly achieve the local employment through the industry visits and industry cooperation.
2. Abundant resources of the island nation, technical development of the waters and promotion of the theme activities
The department of this university is located in the Pingtung County, and it has many rich ecological landscapes and water environments. Those adjacent to the relevant water industries include: 1. Kenting National Park; 2. Tapeng Bay National Scenic Area; 3. Liangshan Waterfall; 4. Lamay Island; 5. Sihchong River; 6. Resorts, restaurants, homestays and leisure farms in the Kenting region; 7. Pingtung National Sports Center; 8. Various public and private swimming pools in Kaohsiung and Pingtung region. Also, this department has 12 teachers with the water-related certificates, so it will set the industries, skills and activities related to water as another goal for the development characteristics of the department, actively sign the “strategic alliance”, “student internship”, “tutorship for the license test”, “collaborative teaching”, “corporate learning”, and “industry-academy cooperation” with the relevant units to create a three-in-one teaching environment for the water characteristics of this department (theory-theoretical knowledge, practice-license visit, and field-internship & employment).
3. To encourage the local learning, and expand the leisure participation
For Taiwan, in recent years, working hours have been shortened, free time has increased, national incomes have increased, and their disposable conditions in life have relatively increased; but in the process of globalization, such as industrial upgrading, value change, cultural change, entertainment form change, etc, the modern people also have the needs of physical and mental explorations for themselves, and they begin to actively learn the knowledge and skills concerning the leisure sports to satisfy their own growth and remedy. Based on this, how to implement the leisure education, outdoor recreation, sightseeing, health management, industrial management and other leisure physical & mental skills is also a main basic objective for the development of the master program of this department. So the master program of this department cooperates with the “Promotion Education Center” with the “encourage the local learning and expand the leisure participation” as its development characteristics, and also encourages the national primary school & middle school teachers for further study and local further study. As a result, it puts forward the specific strategy of “master credit class” (three semesters in one year), and then encourages the students to apply for the on-the-job master program of this department in the following year. In addition, it also promotes and encourages the primary school & middle school teachers in the neighboring countries to directly apply for the master program of this department; furthermore, the national primary school & middle school teachers can also learn and absorb the leisure-related knowledge in the learning process, and apply them in their own work.
[Recreation & Sport Management Department]
The formulation of the educational objectives for this department needs to consider the social development trends & needs, student sources and traits, school and college educational objectives, along with the leisure policies of the government and non-governmental organizations. The objectives will be formulated after passing the curriculum development committee and department affair conference. The department has two educational objectives respectively shown in the following: (I) Cultivate the grass-roots professional service talents for the recreation service industry. (II) Cultivate the grass-roots professional service talents for the sport service industry.
[Recreation Business Management Master Program]
The formulation of the educational objectives for the master program of this department needs to be in coordination with the leisure industry development trends, the needs from schools at all levels in the fields of teacher training and leisure sports, social & economic fluctuations, combined with the school and college educational objectives, and also consider the government’s policy trends for the leisure sports, tourism & hospitality, and health management. The objectives will be formulated after passing the research institute affair committee and department affair conference. The master program of this department has three educational objectives respectively shown in the following: (I) Cultivate the mid-level management talents related to the recreation and sport industry. (II) Cultivate the mid-level management talents related to the tourism and hospitality industry. (III) Cultivate the mid-level management talents related to the health industry.
